GM Sanchez receives appointment from I.A.M.A. Head, GM Gary Alexander

GM Elmalem (L), Editor of Budo International America Magazine & Karate great, GM Joe Hess greet GM Sanchez at event

Grandmaster Sanchez was a special guest of Grandmaster Gary Alexander’s International Association of Martial Artists Hall of Fame held November 15th in Woodbridge, New Jersey. During the prestigious festivities, Grandmaster Sanchez was appointed once again to the Senior Black Belt Board of Directors for the I.A.M.A.

Sensei Robert Schmitt

Once a Marine….Always a Marine…….Sensei Robert Schmitt was elected the Chaplain for the local detachment of the Marine Corps League in North Carolina. A Black Belt in San-Jitsu, as well as ranked in Judo from the Kodokan in Japan, Robert & his Wife, Heather are enjoying their retirement there.

  • In this issue there is not much news to report Internationally as we wind down for the upcoming Holidays & New Year except to say that everyone seems to be doing great!....To our International Sensei, “Thank you” for your continued efforts in promoting & teaching San-Jitsu worldwide!
  •  In local Hombu news, we wish a speedy recovery to students, Nathaniel Hart who incurred a hand injury & to Ryan Schulz who incurred a foot injury. We hope to see you back in the dojo soon & to Don Muhammad, “welcome back”, as well as to Louis Riskin who will be joining us again in January; & a warm welcome as well to new students, Rob Stinger & to Guamanian students, Shawn Camacho & Joshua Cruz who joined us this December.  Lastly, happy birthday wishes & many happy returns to students, Sensei Phillip Spears, Chris Mason & Natalie Hijar who celebrate their Birthdays this December.

As reported in an earlier newsletter, the Oriental language is a descriptive language where words can refer to more than one thing….Take “Kung-Fu” for instance which we know as a Chinese martial art, the word “Kung-Fu” really means “great skill” & can refer to the martial art as we know it, OR to a gardener who has “great skill” . It is all relative. As for San-Jitsu or “Sanjitsu”, if you google the word “Sanjitsu”, you will find two Japanese companies that also carry the name “Sanjitsu”. Again, the word is “descriptive”, even though “Sanjitsu” or “San-Jitsu” as we know it refers to our martial art from Guam…..

HISTORICAL PHOTO

Grandmaster Sanchez attempts to break 13 concrete slabs

This particular break was performed at one of Soke’s earlier tournaments in Jacksonville, Florida. We will also have the video of this particular break added to the San-Jitsu website as we revamp it. After two corrected inguinal hernias incurred by Soke he no longer practices the extreme conditioning needed to accomplish this feat & at age 60 concentrates on internal – external power development.

Keep on training hard until next time & as always, thank you for your loyalty & support!
